The Common-Good of Civic and Social Rochester

The idea of a Social Settlement for Rochester was first discussed in April, 1901. Those then in sympathy with the movement were so full of enthusiasm for the cause, so zealous in their appeals for money, the necessary funds were soon obtained along with 150 members. The premises at 152 Baden Street were leased and in May, 1901 Social Settlement of Rochester opened its doors.

The first issue of the Settlement Bulletin was issued on February 15, 1906, with the ninth and final issue of the third volume appearing in April, 1910.

The directors of the Rochester Social Settlement concluded that the focus of the Settlement Bulletin was too narrow, and began publishing The Common-good of Civic and Social Rochester in April, 1910 to better serve the needs of all civil and social organizations in the city. Four volumes of this monthly publication were issued, covering a wide and fascinating range of topics. Some issues have been published on Google Books and the rest have been scanned from microfilm
