Tombstone was founded in 1879 during a silver boom.
The Sycamore Springs Water Company first delivered water in July of 1880.
The Huachuca Water Company was organized the following year and took over the Sycamore Springs company. The Huachuca Company developed 23 springs in Miller and Carr Canyons of the Huachuca Mountains and built a 27 mile long riveted wrought-iron pipeline to deliver the water.
On April 14, 1947 the City of Tombstone purchased the stock of the Huachuca Water Company.
The waterworks are currently owned by the City of Tombstone.
