Hollister was incorporated as a city in 1872.
The first water works were built in 1875 by Richard M. Shackleford and water was flowing by Christmas of that year.
Shackleford sold all the property to the newly formed Hollister Water Company on March 26, 1877.
The City bought the water company in 1945
Water is provided by the City of Hollister.
