San Rafael was incorporated in 1874.
The first water works were built by the Marin County Water Company in 1872.
In 1908, Marin Water and Power Company purchased the entire property of Marin County Water Company.
The Marin Municipal Water District was formed in 1912, the first municipal water district in California.
The Marin Municipal Water District bought the Martin Water and Power Company in 1915 for $1.2 million.
Water is provided by the
Marin Municipal Water District.
