District Heating in Davenport, Iowa

The Davenport Consolidated Gas, Electric and Steam Heating Company was organized in January 1896 and began supplying steam in October.

The company shut down at the end of the 1941-1942 heating system.

R. H. Lind, Industrial Engineer of the Peoples Light Company informs us that as a result of a complete study this past summer, 38% of their system has been discontinued, which a loss of only 9% in gross revenue.  The parts cut-off were in the non-profit outlying district and were quite old.  There will be a decrease in maintenance as well as less line loss.

The Peoples Light Company has changed its name to the Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric Co  About 50% of the steam customers have been dropped to date in anticipation of discontinuance of central station heating service after this season.
