District Heating in New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans utility Entergy decided to develop a district cooling system after the example set by Unicom Thermal Technologies in Chicago and Houston. Their new plant opened in 2000 and the system also provided steam from an existing plant leased from LSU. The LSU plant was flooded and damaged during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and after Enwave bought system in December 2013 they built a new, more robust steam plant that can withstand future hurricanes.

The system was sold to Enwave in December 2013 and to CenTrio in 2021.
