The Pottsville Steam Heat & Power Company was incorporated July 12, 1888 and the steam was turned on December 9th.
The company petitioned the state PUC to go out of business in 1965, but kept operating until June 1972.

A fire having destroyed the plant of the Pottsvlle Steam Heat and Poewr
Company, Pottsville, Pa., numerous dwellings and hotels that secured steam
from them for heating purposes are now in an unhappy condition.
Local heating men shoudl be able to alleviate the discomfort by the prompt
installation of a portable home heating boiler.

Page 265-266: An admirable system of heating is provided through the
agency of the Pottsville Steam Heat and Power company, incorporated in
1888. This system is employed in heating private residences as well
as public houses and institutions, and is not only a saving in fuel
expenses, but it dispenses with the worries of "firing up" numerous
furnaces and stoves and saves the expense of individual plants, besides
affording the people uniform heat, day and night alike.

Pottsville Steam Heat Co. is operating under a receiver appointed by the
courts after it announced it "intends to go out of business June 15, 1966.
But John F. McCalL thus named, indicates that the interest of the Reading
Anthracite Co. is such as to indicate continued operation.

About 125 of the 260 customers of 1971-72 were commercial.
In 1965 the firm had indicated its intention to go out of business at the
termination of the June 15, heating season. At that time, the County Court
appointed a receiver for the utility. It was taken out of a two-year
receivership by Reading Anthracite Coal Company in 1967.
