Jordan was incorporated as a village in 1835.
The first water works were built for fire protection by S.L. Rockwell and Company, using water power to deliver water to hydrants. The company expanded the system to provide domestic service by pumping water to a reservoir.
The Jordan Water System built a separate system in 1889, and was acquired by the Weedsport Water Company in 1896.
The system was purchased by the Village in 1926 for $22,5000. The village negotiated an agreement to buy water from the city of Syracuse in 1935.
Water is provided by the City of Syracuse and is then delivered through the Village of Elbridge transmission lines to the Village of Jordan water distribution system.
