Astoria, Oregon

Astoria was incorporated as a city in 1876.

The first water system was reportedly built in 1870 by unknown parties.

James W. Welch, his mother, and W. W. Parker built the Welch Hill water works around 1877. This system was merged into the Columbia Water Works in 1882.

The Columbia Water Company built works in 1884.

The city bought the water company in 1892 and built a 7½ mile wood-stave conduit 18-inches in diameter.

Water is supplied by the City of Astoria.
