Salem, Oregon

Salem was incorporated as a city in 1857.

The first water works were built in 1871 by the Salem Water Company.

The system was acquired by the Salem Water and Light Company, which was organized in 1911.

This company, in turn, was bought in 1927 by the Federal Water Service Company of New York, which operated the system under their subsidiary, Oregon-Washington Water Service Company.

The city bought the water company in 1935.

Water is supplied by the City of Salem.
